As we all head home, our summer holidays drawing to an end, back to work or school, the weather is certainly a harsh reminder that autumn is on it’s way. Aside from the usual promise of an Indian summer, which this year doesn’t look forthcoming, we turn our thoughts to updating our homes.
Spotlighting on the trends for this autumn and into winter, colour is playing a key role as a visual element in design, with the introduction of lines and patterns created in blocks of colour. A perfect example of this are the new silks from James Hare, an easy way to introduce this trend into your home.
Material manipulation is another emerging theme with exhibitors experimenting with new techniques as shown here by blacksmith, James Price’s new Cocoon light.
The London Design Festival is an annual event, held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world, this year the festival takes place from 19th – 27th September. Over this period there will be hundreds of events taking place, too many to list individually so I’m highlighting a few.
Visit www.londondesignfestival.com to see the various events taking place across London.
Simply no better place to be inspired.
13 – 15 September, at Olympia, the UK’s leading trade event for design-led gifts, lifestyle and fashion accessories. Together the two shows bring you never seen before product launches along with invaluable business advice at the Academy masterclasses. Voyage Maison will be launching their new collections on stand J23 at Top Drawer.
20 – 23 September, at Syon Park. Synonymous with great design, visitors to Decorex this year can discover ‘The future of Luxury’. Don’t miss the ‘Material Lab’, where Giles Miller Studio will be showcasing their innovative surface designs.
20 – 25th September, at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. Over 500 brands in 103 showrooms at 1 address. Interior design for all to see. The first four days are for trade only but the last day is open to the general public.

23 – 26 september, at Olympia. The UK’s largest design trade event, this year they are exploring ‘design in colour’. My pick on a coastal inspired theme is Iona Crawford’s puffin design lampshades and cushion.
24 – 27 September, at The Old Truman Brewery. Two shows of pure design hosting 450 exhibitors from 29 countries. Look out for the Czech republic’s Glass Mania.
If you can, spend a few days in London this September, if you can’t fear not, the interior design magazines will be bringing you the best of all the shows. If you need any help then please feel free to contact me or local showrooms in Jersey for more information. Click on the images to check out their websites.
