Beauty Fashion Scent review

Gabrielle the new fragrance from Chanel

Before creating the House of Chanel, Coco was Gabrielle. A rebel at heart…passionate and free. The inspiration behind the luminous floral fragrance GABRIELLE CHANEL.

THE NEW FRAGRANCE

Gabrielle by Chanel, the house’s first major fragrance since Chance in 2002 has succeeded in being a clean and modern fragrance and yet also celebrating the brand’s heritage.

COMPOSITION

Olivier Polge, Chanel’s in house perfumer, crafted this Eau de Parfum as an imaginary flower — “a radiant and sparkling, purely feminine Chanel blossom based on a bouquet of four white flowers: a rich, enveloping heart of exotic Jasmine shimmers with the fruity green notes of Ylang-Ylang, while fresh and sparkling Orange Blossom shines through, offering a glimpse of Grasse Tuberose captured at its finest. Four points of light that recall the four corners of the bottle.”

Top notes: Mandarin, grapefruit, black currant
Heart: Grasse Tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, orange blossom
Base notes: Sandalwood, musk

DESIGN

The bottle and packaging have been designed by Sylvie Legastelois and took five years in the making. The fragrance appears to be suspended weightlessly within the striking, jewel like square bottle crafted of ultra-thin glass, as the four transparent sides fade into the background to let the light shine through. The label and the stopper have the same shape and adhere to the clean lines of the classic Chanel bottles.

THE CAMPAIGN

Actress Kristen Stewart is the face of the campaign that includes a film shot by director Ringan Ledwidge inspired by the liberation and freedom of Coco Chanel herself as a strong woman as well as a print ad by Karim Sadi.

MY THOUGHTS

If you’re a die-hard fan of Chanel perfumes you’ll love this one, much lighter than Coco Mademoiselle, Gabrielle is very wearable and and an easy scent for the daytime. A feminine floral but not too heady, initially the top notes of white florals with hints of fruity blackcurrant give way to the creamy sandalwood base notes. A light floral with reasonably good sillage I will find this a useful addition to my collection but nothing groundbreaking.

Available as a 50 and 100ml Eau de Parfum at Feel Unique
